In the microtext area, we have machines that will allow you to read microfilm and microfiche, as well as make photocopies. These machines are called reader-printers.

Fiche reader-printers have a glass plate that slides over a light source, and under a magnifying lens. They look like this:

You can see here that the glass plate has a grey handle that allows you to move the fiche to the right position. The green button makes the photocopy.

Film reader-printers have many more parts. They must have 2 spindles, one for the roll of film you want to look at, and one to use as a take-up reel. A motor or hand crank allows you to turn the reel and move to the frame you want to see. The machines look like this:
This is an example of a motorized film carriage. There is a roll on film on the left spindle. The take-up wheel is almost hidden, surrounded by controls for the motor.
