Computer Down Time
Computers in the Electronic Information Center, adjacent to the Reference
Area, will be offline today, December 18th. ITD Networking will
be upgrading the network switch. The computers will be
disconnected
from the internet during the upgrade. Computers on the upper floors will
be available during that period.
Computers on the 3rd floor and the 4th floor
will be disconnected on Tuesday, the 19th, for similar upgrades to the
network infrastructure. Systems is planning to notify staff in the
affected areas prior to disconnection.
New READ Posters
Four new READ posters will be produced soon. They will feature
the following MTSU students: Matthew Bullington, recipient of
the President's Award; Kimberly Jones, recipient of the
Muscular Dystrophy Association's Personal Achievement Award; John Garang
Awan from the Sudan, recipient of the Community Service Award; and Peter
Skobic, a management student from Croatia.
Photographs will be taken and posters will be designed in the coming

Deans Meeting Summary
Facilities and Administrative Costs (formerly "Indirect
Costs") - Need to be reinvested in infrastructure to support research.
Looking at areas in which to invest these funds from last year (manager
for grant & other research projects, matching $ for other grants, building
lab to support research, bridge $ to support research work between grant
periods, library resources.
- Salary Increases
Market review has been completed and salary information is
being supplied to the deans. Dean Craig will be reviewing with faculty and
staff. 691 faculty were in the study. Monetary pool for increases was
limited by TBR. Faculty review based on new peers. Staff review is
a continuation of previous market study. Any adjustments received will be
effective in January.
- Security
Letters have been distributed to those who were affected in
the recent security issue involving a server in the library.
- Release Time
Discussion of faculty release time policy on campus and in the
library. Dean Craig and Bill Black will review current procedure.
- Searches
Update on searches for Web Services,
Instruction/Reference, and External Relations. Expect
interviews to occur in January.
