Computing in the Library

Over 300 PCs are located in the James E. Walker Library

Computers on the first floor in the Electronic Information Center (EIC)

  • Research Purposes only, including:
    • Voyager, the Library's online catalog
    • Access to the Research Gateway to search general and subject databases and electronic resources
    • Searching for additional resources on the Internet
    • E-mail
  • Software includes Internet Explorer, Microsoft Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Scanner access on the computer "Wouk"
  • Printers three laser black and white printers are available for student use. There are no color printers in the library.

Computers on the second, third, and forth floors include access to various software programs and the Internet. Printing is available from any sit-down workstation. The same software mentioned above is also available on these computers.


Laptops

Laptop computers are available for student use within the library. You may check them out at the Reserves Desk on the first floor. All laptops have wireless network capabilities.

The Library has network connections for laptops throughout the public reading areas. Using a 10BaseT network card, you can access the campus network and the Internet using any of the several hundred data jacks in the building. The Library is also part of the MTSU wireless network.

You may also use your own laptop in the Library. Instructions for configuring your personal laptop.

You may also use the wireless network if you computer has a wireless card and you are a currently employed staff or faculty or you are a currently enrolled student. You must register your computer with the campus ITD department before you can take advantage of this service.

Adaptive Technology

The Adaptive Technology Center, located on the first floor of the library, offers access to hardware and software tools for students, faculty, and staff with disabilities.
